I've just about gathered everything I need to mix up some of Dr. Ware's cyanotype emulsion and need a small brown bottle. So, I naively went looking for 'em locally ... with no luck whatsoever. They MUST be around here somewhere, but pharmacies and various other shops have turned up plastic, blue glass, brown eye dropper bottles, but nothing brown AND glass AND ~100ml.

So, any ideas? Does everyone buy these on-line? I can find 'em there, just didn't seem like I'd need to do that.

Thanks,
Nathan

This isn't an answer for a single bottle, but I buy Wheaton Boston Rounds bottles from Carolina Biological Supply. They aren't the cheapest prices, and you have to buy them by the case, but the quality is excellent and they come with a cone-shaped cap-liner which completely seals all fumes, including ones which are usually very difficult to control like ether. Carolina also has great customer service.

For a single bottle you could try a chain like the Container Store (mediocre quality)

Yup, tried them. Thought for sure they'd have 'em too - nope. They had blue glass, and brown glass eyedropper bottles, but no brown glass other than that.

Thanks, I also found them on-line at www.specialtybottle.com, but I'd hoped to pick one up this week and mix this stuff up over the weekend.

1) buy six-pack of root-beer or other soda at the grocery that comes in small brown bottles.
2) drink said root-beer
3) wash and rinse well empty bottles
4) get rubber stoppers at hardware store

CLEARLY LABEL THE BOTTLES FOR REUSE!

I have also seen some relatively heavy brown plastic (PETA?) bottles in small sizes with hydrogen peroxide at the pharmacy. Might be suitable but should check into that first.

If you have an American Science and Surplus store there, they frequently have them cheap. When they have them, they have lots of them..Evan Clarke

If you have a local shop that specialises in aroma therapy and natural apocathery remedies, they often have a supply of small brown glass bottles intended just for the purpose of storing pure ingredients in a relatively inert environment.

To paraphrase, buy a 6 pack of Grolsch Beer in brown glass bottles with resealable caps. After enjoying the beer, proceed as above, but not the same day.

I have a box full of these bottles. Mainly empties from the many palladium bottles Ive gone through. Let me know if youd like me to pull a bunch out for you. I could meet you somewhere tomorrow during the day or late afternoon.
I work up off of 51st and manor and live in South Austin, so I could meet you somewhere thats convenient. Shoot me a PM or email.
