I've bought a Winder ei-ii for my ETRSi which is en route and have a few of questions that aren't covered in the Winder Ei manual.

1. The winder winds on when the button is released. What happens if you release it before a long exposure is finished?

2. Can it be used with the mirror-up function? Normally if you wind on while mirror up is engaged, the shutter is released. Does this also happen when using the winder?

3. Can you "practise" with the winder without film loaded if you enable the multiple exposure function? Without the winder this allows the shutter to be recocked by winding on without film loaded.

Thanks in advance
Andrew

If your camera shutter is set for slow shutter speed, you can press -- and immediately release -- the shutter button of the motor winder, and the winder winds on only after the completion of shutter close.

Yes, you can use the winder with mirror up. If you fire with mirror up, the winder winds on and for a brief moment you will be able to see thru the viewfinder, but then the mirror flips up again.

Yes, you can remove film back and set body for multiple exposure, and 'practice'

One more question... I've received by Winder Ei ii. I had assumed that the LED between the power switch and the advance button would work the same as on the original Winder Ei, for which I have the manual That is, it would serve as a battery check light when the advance button (not the shutter button) is pressed. However it does not light on my winder. Is this a fault, or does the LED serve some other purpose?

Many thanks
Andrew

Sorry, no direct experience with Winder Ei II...I own the Motor Drive and the Motor Winder Ei.
I know of no functional difference between Ei and EI II winders, I think the difference is only in form factor.

Thanks again wiltw.

Actually I managed to answer the question myself, in case anyone else wants to know. Apparently the red LED lights automatically for 10 seconds after each frame advance if the battery voltage is low. So this functionality is different from the Winder-Ei, which is what confused me as I also thought they were functionally identical.
