Hi All

I have a Bronica SQ-A with two backs. Back 1 works just fine.
Back 2 keeps winding past frame 1 and does not cock the shutter.

I found a thread discussing the issue and that helped me chase down the issue.

I've determined that the pin in the back that should move forward at frame 1, stops the winding and cocks the shutter is not moving at all. If I depress the corresponding in the camera back with a screwdriver the shutter cocks as it should.

If anyone has been able to rectify this I would be very grateful for some guidance. Suspect it will be necessary to take the side off the insert to try and track down the problem.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Regards

Tim

I had this issue with an SQ back. Problem was the pin on the filmback that enters the camera body was slightly bent, therefore not fully depressing the corresponding pin on the camera body. Once I straightend it up it worked perfectly again.

Hopefully that is all is wrong with yours.

Back in 2006 I cobbled together an SQ-A system piece by piece and when I finally got enough stuff to attempt to use the camera, I had exactly that experience. In fact, that's when I wound up on APUG/Photrio!

I solved the problem by returning the back and purchasing one elsewhere. But I think Zenzanon Fan's comment is the answer. Those cameras and their interlocks can cause a lot of head scratching! Somewhere on the Internet, and maybe in an old thread here, there were pictures of the internals of the backs. The mechanical complexity appears a bit intimidating, but probably do-able. Some removal of the leatherette is presumably necessary to get at things.

Ah -- easier to find than I thought ... Fixing a Broken Film Transport

Good luck, between that and light seal issues, the backs seem to be the Achilles heel of these cameras.

Great. Thanks for the replies.

A bent pin was my initial thought as well.

Will dive in and see what happens

Well this is going to sound bizarre, but here goes.

Took the side off the insert and the pin didn't seem to be bent. What I did notice is that two small screws the same size as those that attach the side had also fallen out. Couldn't for the life of me see where they came from.

Put a roll of backing paper on and gave it a test, and it worked!

Re-assembled the whole lot and tried again a number of times and it's still working fine.

Guess that's my quota of good luck for the next twelve months.

Regards

Tim
