I just got myself a used Bronica S2A in perfect condition, minus the focusing screen, which is a bit cracked.
I can't seem to find focusing screens for the S2A on the web. What types of screens can I use on my S2A? Can I use the ones from EC/EC-TL or from any other 6x6 camera? And most important: where to buy from?
It's just a plain groundglass with a fresnel lens facing up in a recessed well underneath it. Any simple groundglass that doesn't have a built-in fresnel lens and can be trimmed to size will work. I replaced mine with a SatinSnow groundglass cut to order, but he's shut down his business. Anyone who makes ordinary groundglass for large format cameras could make you one to size, or you might try other plain 6x6 groundglasses and see if they fit.
You can get one from Dead Link Removed. He has made a couple for my S2As, so he should know the dimensions. The focusing screen is piece of plain ground glass with a fresnel lens beneath. Hopefully the plastic fresnel lens is undamaged.
So i just ordered myself a piece from sheetfilm. Can't wait to get it
I've done a bit of research and found out that you can fit focusing screens from Kiev 88 to Bronica S2A. I'll do a test as soon as i get myself one and see how that works. I'll keep you guys posted.
Without doubt, the best screens I have ever used are by Bill Maxwell. Not cheap but they are a thing of beauty. Maxwell Precision Optics Custom made 35mm, medium-format, and large-format camera view screens. Arguably, the very best camera screens available today
