Is there something like a logo in the center of the knob? Many cameras will have something similar to hide screws/ If there is it can be loosened with some alcohol on it. SAometimes a gentle prying with a sewing needle can help.
Hi, on the off chance that you don't already know this - that's normal behavior with an empty film magazine attached. The winding knob SHOULD engage if you remove the empty magazine. (Hopefully)

There's film in it, so it should wind. I don't have a dark slide for it, but that's not required yet.
I was able to figure it out from the diagram. You have to open the little metal flap into which the winding lever knob recesses into the knob, then remove 3 small screws. Tight fit, but I got it off!
Well, best of luck with it. Lots of tricky mechanisms and interlocks in there.
Out of curiosity, when you turn the main winding/cocking knob does the small winding knob on the film mag also rotate? (This would mean that film is attempting to be wound.)

Yes, the film back was working properly, which was a good sign, but it still doesn't feel right. I was able to make a dark slide out of some scrap metal I had, so got the back off. Still rough.
Got a rough quote from OC Camera in Mission Viejo, CA.
