Bronica Lens Knowledge Required

Hello,

I have the ETRS with the 75 EII Lens where does this fall in sharpness compaired to the other lenses available, if you have owned a PE and an EII did you see a difference?

I do not own one, but I just read something the other day about the various versions of lenses. The PE is supposed to be the sharpest, followed by your lens, and then the MC version.

I'm considering buying an ETRSi and have been doing some research. How do you like yours so far?

Perhaps somebody with first hand knowledge can confirm.

Thats what I have read.

I love my Bronica, I got a prism and a grip and love to use it, I find it nice and easy, I use a spotmeter with it and have no problems at all.

My Bronica ETRSi kit came with the MC lens. So far I am very pleased with the performance, I don't think that lens has anything to be sorry about. So if the EII and PE lenses are better, they must be very good indeed.

MC < EII < PE, generally speaking. The primary benefit of the PE over the earlier lenses is improved contrast at wider apertures, increased resistance to flare, particularly with the WA lenses in the lineup. I've never seen or heard anything about better detail resolution per se. As I recall, the EII lens design was not significantly improved in IQ by the PE.

Image Quality

"Do you know what (sic) this is achieved?" Do you mean 'how', not 'what'?! Better coatings on the air-glass surfaces.

IQ meaning image quality I think. I also believe that the PE lenses have half-stop detents on the lens, so better chance of an accurate exposure, but I could be wrong on that one.

Yep, the PE has half stops. I have used both MC and PE lenses and both give great results. I think you won't notice much unless you go really big on enlargement.

The Bronica 75 MC takes a 58mm filter, the 75mm EII and 75mm PE take 62mm filters. I replaced my 75mm MC with a 75mm EII to be able to use the same 62mm filters that I use on my 50mm PE and my 150mm MC.

They are all good lenses. I have made more than a few portraits with the 150mm MC. At todays prices I would buy the PE versions, they are only a few dollars more than the EII or MC versions.

You can set your MC or EII at half stops in between f stops, it just does not "click" into place and may not be exactly repeatable each time.

I have the EII and the PE, and I agree that the main difference is the PE has better flare resistance. They are both multi-coated, so the difference will usually not be noticeable. They do not have an identical optical formula.
They are both the same size, and the EII seems to be a little heavier. The EII has a nifty-lookin' green stripe around it while the PE looks boring by comparison. The stop down lever on the PE is chunkier and a little more annoying when turning the aperture ring, though the ring is wider and a little easier to grip than the EII's.

I've read that the EII was supposedly a noticeable improvement optically over the MC, but I have no direct knowledge of that.
