I have recurrent problems attaching 6x7 backs to my GS-1. I have to be very careful when attaching or else the back doesn't secure correctly and then can be a real bitch to remove. The camera won't fire either ( which is understandable ) . If I am careful though, the backs will attach ok.
I am just wondering whether this is usual ? Does one have to always be very careful attaching GS-1 backs, or is there something wrong either with my body or the backs? The area at the top of the body where the two lugs of the backs go into the slots on the body isquite scratched indicating perhaps that it is a well or misused body? Or is that usual as well?

Not a biggy, but sometimes quite frustrating.

I can't answer your primary question, but on the Bronica SQ series the areas near the slots are often scratched quite a bit--I think it is just because users locate the slots by feel with the back rather than by sight.

I don’t have any trouble, one of my bodies is worn the other is not. Maybe try another back and see.

I have one GS1 body and 3 backs, and they all attach and detach easily with no complications. Sounds like your latch may need a slight adjustment.

Sounds like a problem with the latch in the body. I had something similar happen and had to have mine serviced.

You should always be careful - I usually disengage the latch when putting a back on instead of "snapping" it on.

I'll echo this.... Multiple backs all behave on my bodies and leads me to think some adjusting is due for you?

Thanks to all for your replies. Have been "practising" taking backs off and reattaching and I think it is just more care required!

If you are new to detachable backs it may just be a matter of getting used to it. However, keep an eye on it. Mine was fine, then became as you describe, and eventually would not work at all.
