Bronica ETRC Film Back Insert Help

My recent foray back into analog photography has my 85 year old father dusting off his ETRC and getting excited about shooting film again. A problem has surfaced. His ETRC was an old workhorse he used on wedding assignments. It only has a 220 film insert. As you know, there are little if any 200 film offerings available and none in black and white or transparency. So here is my question;

Can he shoot 120 film on his 220 insert or does he need to find/purchase a 120 insert?

If he needs a 120 insert, where is a good place to find one?

I've quickly checked KEH and eBay with no joy. Your help is appreciated.

Backs are not very expensive. KEH is a very reputable camera broker n is well trusted by most photographers here. Just Google them, you'll be very pleased with the quality of how they rate the equipment. A BGN tagged back will more than likely look new or gently used.

KEH also stands behind their equipment with a very good return policy.

Edit... I just checked KEH, they have a 120 BGN back for $21. Not a bad deal at all.

Thanks Paul. What I'm looking for is an ETRC 120 film holder/insert. The ETRS has a detachable back with a film holder/insert akin to a Hasselblad. That is Dad's problem. He has the ETRC which does not have a detachable back and he just needs a 120 film holder/insert to replace the 220 film holder/insert he already has. I don't believe the 120 film holder/insert from an ETRS back will work in the ETRC. I did not see any ETRC related equipment on the KEH website; however, maybe I just need help finding it.

Ah right the C is not the same as the ETRS series.

It is possable to shoot 120 in the 220 insert. You'll have to start the roll at a different point n not at the arrow.

Also the frames will get very close as you get closer to the end of the roll. I have done this many times with my RB67s.

What i sugest is experiment with a roll of paper backing. With the lens off.... Advance the film to find your frame 1 start point.... It should be almost at the very tongue end.

Then once you establish a start point.... advance the frames, mark them with a pencil so you can see how they align. Just be mindful of hiw many frames you shoot.

According to the ETRC manual, the insert is the 120 insert E. I think its the same one the removeable backs for the ETRS take, thats why you cant find anything specifically for sale for the ETRC. I tried to post a link to the online pdf ETRC manual but that got my post stuck in moderation limbo.

At worst you get nine frames instead of ten with his existing back. Loading like ron says you get the ten.

Ya know looking at the manual... I wonder if an ETRS insert will fit in that shell?

There are very few items in the ETR series which cannot be used/mounted on a different body of the ETR series.
  • The 386 TTL adapter for ETRSi on ETRS won't plug in
  • An ETRS focus screen will semi block display of the flash confirmation light in the ETRSi viewfinder
  • Metered prism does not automatically turn on when mounted on ETR/ETRC...the button on the prism must be pressed to activate when on those bodies
  • An ETRS film magazine will not mount on the ETRC
...only things I can think of, off the top of my head


But an ETRS film insert WILL work fine in the ETRC. Confirmed this in William Cheung's
