So i just got myself a grip for my Bronica ETR, but when i went to try out the hotshoe with my flashes i discovered they only work sometimes. After a little fiddling with the flashes, i figured out that they are ever so slightly smaller than the shoe, and the side contact doesn't touch unless i push the flash over and lock it down as tight as possible. It works like that until i touch the flash or move the camera around a bit - then the thing jiggles ever so slightly out of place and i have to try and put it back.
I don't have anything other than Sunpak flashes, so i'm curious if anyone else has run into this problem with other flashes, or if there's some easy solution i'm not thinking of.
If your flash has a place to plug in a sync cord - you can use that. Alternatively you could get one of the hot shoe adapters that have the sync plug on the side(if it fits your flash better)
Well, i took a look at my 26SR, and the side contacts were really flush with the sides, so i popped open the shoe and tapped them out a bit. It seems to have helped - no more pushing required. The weird thing is i was having the problem this morning on both the 26SR and the 433D, but the 433D seems to have fixed itself. Hopefully that's the end of it.
Oh, and for future reference, flash + waistlevel finder = blind.
I noticed with my ETRSi that if I use a flash with flash cord I have to tape off the contact on the hotshoe, otherwise it will not work. Don't know if it will be the same with te ETR but it might.
