A long-winded question for the Bronica owners here (we'll get there, promise).

A buddy loaned me his SQ-A kit while the honenymoon with his new S2A lasts, so I can play with it for a few weeks until I'm sure if I want to invest into the system. Part of the system is a 80mm PS lens, and while the helicoid and optics are top-notch, the aperture ring just seems kind of... stiff and mushy, not slipping into the detents with much confidence. Also not fan of the knurling pattern.

Now for the actual question - is this typical for this lens (or PS lenses in general)? Do 'plain' S lenses differ in feel (lack of half-stops notwithstanding) or is it more of the same? And finally - I've seen S lenses with knurling along most of the circumference of the aperture ring, but I've also seen models that have 'wings', like this one, which I'd prefer. Are these from an early production run? Does anyone have one? How do they hold up mechanically?

The difference in coatings (S <-> PS) is not something that'll weigh heavily on me, since I only shoot BW and seldom enlarge my negatives, so any marginal optical improvements will probably be lost on me.

I have the 50, 80 and 150 -S and the 110f4.5 -PS. All my -S lenses have fairly definite detents and the knurling extends over two sector wings of about 90 degrees arc on each side of the aperture scale. The -PS lens has knurling most of the way around and the detents do feel slightly softer. Maybe it has to do with smaller space to put them at half stop intervals.
