Well, interesting . I put together my supplies from a variety of sources. the ink was from bostick & sullivan, various brushes from the hardware store (used for faux painting walls) as well as tiles, tape , cleaning supplies and rollers (check Gene Laughters site and/or video). Misc. stuff from art supply stores.

Mix my own fixer from scatch, using basic developer LPD highly diluted. Mix own bleaches from scatch.

Total cost no more than 225 dollars.

I bought David Lewis basic kit and it has made its work. But it contained only 25 sheets of paper and I want to try colour inks for sure, and for sure I need more then one brush.
So I started to look what next. I try to find basic chemicals here in Slovakia but it is not so simple - I would have meet with one potential supplier tomorrow. Brushes looks to be at this moment the biggest and probably the most expensive problem / take aside dreaming about press. I checked shops here but i didn't found anything I can use.

What kind of paper you use for Bromoil prints? What is "scatch"? And what is that LPD developer? Thank you

"scatch" means from raw chemicals, not kits.

LPD is a common paper developer ; you could use what ever, do you have dektol available? Use it at a high dilution ration; i.e. 1:8.

Am using Ilford's matt paper, luminous charcoal x , afga 118.

Have you tried art supply stores? You can use stencil brushes, cut them yourself at an angle.

I am not considering a press.

If you can get your hands on a copy of Gene Laughters video it can save you a bit of money, as would his book. Check Bostick&Sullivan for both.

Have you tried Fomabrom or Fomatone MG Classic?

Developers can be mixed at home; if you have the formula (send it to me by email) then I'll see if I can get the ingredients for you.

I don't have developer formula. From what I've read there are two points about bromoil developer - it must be soft and not to stain whole / no lightened / surface of paper

I haven't tried other then special bromoil paper yet. Generally it should work with any fiber not coated paper. I use Fomabrom for "regular" use. Thanks for suggestion, I'm going to try it for bromprints...

also, have you read the information on Ed's site unblinkingeye. it might be helpful with figuring out what supplies can be substitued for. i.e. bromiol brushes vs other versions.

I know the formula for bleach from cooper sulfate, potassium bromide and potassium dichromate and I know what is hypo

I have used David Lewis soft developer and I amazed by its results, not only for bromoil but for "normal" prints too.

If you can suggest me any developer formula, it would be great. I'm going to look at unblinkeye....

I'm gearing up to try Bromoil myself and was wondering if a lith developer (I use kodak D9) can be used and also if Bergger FB papers are suitable for bromoil? I see bergger listed but I'm not sure if its all they're papers or not and there is no mention of a bromoil specific paper they make on their site.

J&C has some bromoil papers. I don't think a lith developer would be a good idea (but i am not an expert here) as it works so differently than "normal" developers. Any paper developer should work as long as it is used a high dilution ratio.

It is my understanding that it is best to use paper that has some "tooth", that is why the matt papers work well.
