Hey, has anybody here ever used the Bromoil Bleaching Kit from bostick-sullivan.com?? I'm looking to experiment with the process and have been trying to find the easiest ways to get the material. It seems pretty cheap for what it offers which is making me wonder if its all I'll need in order to bleach to make the matrix prints. I was looking at photographers formulary for individual chemistry in case it isn't what I'm looking for. Thanks alot!

If you're talking about the one that uses Gene Laughter's formula, then yes, that is all you need. I've used it before and it works great.

Travis, I must give credit where credit is due! The bleach/tan formula that I use is that of Trevor Jones, the late, great bromoilist from England. There are a ton of bromoil bleach formulas out there, mainly in old books, but Trevor's formula works just great for me. In the "golden days" of the bromoil process it seems that each and every bromoilst had their own pet bleach formula. It's very easy to make you own "bleach kit" for all you are dealing with is copper sulphate, Pot bromide and pot dichromate (aka pot bichromate). I do use distilled water to make both the stock and working solutions and I don't feel that sulphuric acid is necessary or desirable in the Jones' formula. I get dark brown liter size glass bottles from my pharmacy and keep the three chemical stock solutions in these bottles, mixing the working solution in a tray just before I bleach. I keep these bottles in my darkroom refrigerator and they will last indefinately, although I go through a lot of bromoil bleach. I bleached 36 8x10 "dark prints" last week and need to bleach another 16 tomorrow!

Cheers,

Gene
