Hope someone can help.

Today I broke my wonderful Vario 70. At least after investigation I am certain what the problem is. One of the wheels inside the filter housing seems to have become detached from its spindle. So when I turn the contrast filter knob, only the wheel on the left (showing the actual filter graduations) moves. The other just stays where it is (5 in the photos). I know this is the problem because I can manually turn that wheel and it changes the colour in the housing and the contrast on my prints.

I don't fully understand why there are two wheels, when you can only see one when the front of the housing is put back.

I just can't find a way of reattaching the wheel to the spindle (these may all be the wrong words - apologies).

Any suggestions before I take it into repair?

Any help will be most welcome.

Thanks.

Just to make things clear: you are referring to the small sprocket-wheel at the lower right?

I assume there are two wheels as two filters have to be moved and thus two filter moving mechanisms are needed.

Correct. Not a good photo, but it is detached from the wheel, and so turning the knob does not spin it. Just cannot push it back together again. Nothing looks broken.

Well, at the lower photo I see at both small sprocket wheels something that looks like a set-screw.

Loosen that screw, rearrange the right large wheel so that it is again in original position against the left large wheel, push in the small wheel and set the screw again.

Your suggestion did not work as they are not screw holes. Don't know what they are for. But as I could not see anything broken, I figured that it must need a bit of force to get it back in place. So I aligned the 2 fives and took a small hammer to it, and it moved back into position. All working fine now.

Thank you so much for your help. It helped me figure it out.

Hint to anyone trying to force the filter wheel to go from 00 to 5. Don't!!

If these are no set screws I got curious now what they are. Maybe someone with a Durst 70 head can tell.
