Though a series of seven sublime platinum & palladium 8x20 figure studies that are currently on exhibit at the Cleveland Heights Arts Gallery, native Ohio talent Robert Puckett displays with unusual and compelling elegance the expressive potential of the female form. More than a mere selection of technically impeccable classical figure studies, Puckett's emphatic images of the female form generates an emotional dialogue in the images' audience that is both new and yet timeless.

Although new to the fine art world, Puckett's highly unusual combination of emotional empathy and mastery of the platinum/palladium process assures his status as an up-and-coming superstar of ultra-large fine art figure photography. Unlike other artists who rely upon exotic processes and subjects to create an artistic persona, Puckett's undeniable talent and understated elegance distinguishes his masterly work from all others in the Heights Arts exhibition.

Heights Arts in Cleveland Hts

Yes, it's that good. I especially liked Bob Herbst's 12x20 images.
For those folks who live in metro Cleveland, it's worth a visit.
I believe the images will be up for til July 22.

The show is called Modern Vision, Classical Methods - June 9- July 22, 2006
2173 Lee Rd. - Cleveland Heights, OH 44118 - tel: 216-371-3457
It is an Alt Process show, Herbert Asherman Jr. guest curator

Herb is a full time portrait photographer, teaches portrait photography at University of Akron. He or technician Richard Wolf print his work in palladium with one drop of platinum giving a warm, gentle, soft look. Herb has run the Jewish Community Center show the last seven years, the largest northern OH show (400+ entries in 2006).

Richard Wolf won the six state FAVA juried show this spring. Bob Herbst, Robert Puckett and I also were juried into that show.

Bob Herbst has a View Camera Magazine cover and has had several articles in View Camera on platinum printing, pyro and architecture while shooting a 12x20 Wisner. He teaches platinum printing and digital negative enlarging locally. He won the JCC show (four? years ago). Robert Puckett, Robert Triffin and I all took his four day platinum printing workshop two summers ago.

Robert Puckett won best B&W picture at the JCC show last year. Who would dare to say more than Triffin above?

Ryan Durdella lith prints

Jerry Brodkey is retired head of surgery at University Hospital, won this year's JCC show with a 7x17 platinum, serene, water's edge, scene. He is a former Bob Herbst platinum printing student and collector of multiple LF cameras. He was kind enough to teach me how to use a Jobo several years ago.

Jennette Palsa, full time portrait photographer, winner of the JCC show (three? years ago), model and former body builder, printing Ambrotypes, was juried into FAVA last year.

Ray Woda, retired teacher, platinum printer.

This is a small show, two small rooms with excellent contact prints done by really talented people. Most have worked together before in the northern Ohio arts scene.
