Dear photographers,

My tiny pocket computer mixed again all of us. Everybody should have a got message from me with a pair of addresses. The first block contains your own address as given to me. Please, make certain that your own address is correct. PM me as soon as possible if a correction is needed to YOUR address.
Please don't mind the numbers, I need them while "mixing" us.

The second block contains the address of your partner: You have to send your print(s) to there. Please wait a few days before sending anything to allow time for corrections. Make sure you mark your box with your name and

BPX 41
on it.

If you are unable to complete your assignment, it is understandable - life often gets in a way of our hobbies. However, it would be very helpful if you let me know so that I could change the assignment to somebody else.

If something is or seems to be wrong, please PM me.

Rest and Relaxation: May 2023

How to avoid taxes / VAT:

If a sending goes outside the U.S. (or more correct: outside your country) it should be a letter, and not a parcel or similar.

Everything you simply put in the letterbox should be a letter. Anything you give at the office may induce taxes. Everything with a custom declaration will induce taxes.

Please keep in mind what "counts" as a letter in your country. In the U.S. it needs to be flexible. In Germany, it may be stiff.

Wow! I received not one, not two, but three prints from Uwe today! The largest is a picture of what's left of an old inn from near his house. That's just the thing I like to shoot, and with a C220 as well! I love my C220, the nice thing is that the lenses are interchangeable, from a little wide to very long. The second shot is of a series of stone monoliths taken in Sweden. And the third is a spectacular mountain shot from South Tirol. Very nice! Thanks Uwe! Also, the prints came pretty quick: posted on the first, arrived on the seventh!

I am glad that you enjoy the prints. The C220f is new for me. As you might know, I have a Rolleiflex too. But I want some kind of replacement, the Flex is as old as me.
During the first shots, I had problems how to hold the camera. Some of my fingers were in the way of the shutter!. But now I have internalized how to hold it.

Today I received the print of Roger Thoms for this round. Even the letter still in my letterbox, I saw, that Roger managed the problems with overseas sending. I got a letter 6" by 9" which - I assume - counts as a real letter and not some kind of parcel.

And small is beautiful! The print nearly fills the envelope. It si a Graffiti taken in San Francisco, where Tom lives.

Tom used a community darkroom. I googled for it and found that is the oldest and largest official darkroom in the US. I was enjoyed that such a thing still exists.

Uwe, I glad the print arrived, yes the 6x9 envelope went as a letter, and is a standard size envelope here in the US. The postage was under $3 so super reasonable the sent overseas. In regards to Harvey Milk Photo Center, it a real gem here in San Francisco. In addition to the darkroom they also have a digital “darkroom”, an exhibition space with ongoing shows and they do a lot of classes.

Received two excellent prints from @Buzz-01 - both quite different. First is "Road to Nowhere", which shows a nicely illuminated part of a path, using a Canon slr with a Helios lens adapted to it. I have one of those Helios lenses rolling around somewhere - I should try it out. It does have a nice out-of-focus rendering.
The second print, entitled "Amigo", features a very shallow depth of field (actually sitting somewhere between the subjects, actually) - the photo is of four fairly-recently emptied beer bottles (Amigo Mexican beer?), taken with a wide-open Nettar in a shipping container. It's a lith print on Brovira-speed rc (which I would've asssumed wouldn't lith, actually, but gets a nice tone). I like the way the bottles look, how you can tell it was not bright but the bottles glisten, regardless.
Thank-you - I really like them.

Mine just got sent today.

Good to hear they arrived and I'm glad you like them!
Indeed I had just missed focus on the beer bottles, but I still liked the image a lot and thought it was worth a print.
I've found zone focusing wide open and close by very challenging...
But, I've just bought a Watameter rangefinder to go with my Nettar, which should make things a lot easier!

The location of focus, in my opinion, is good in that image. The fact that none of the bottles are completely in focus contributes to the composition, since it doesn't draw attention to any one of them in particular. They're all a bit hazy and glowing - and you have to look for the plane of focus to be able to see it at all. It wouldn't have been as good if there'd been camera shake - so good job handholding at that slow shutter speed.

That's probably true, it does add to the image that none of the bottles are really in focus, even though I aimed for the second bottle from the left.

A photo taken with an Holga received just the same day I am about to develop and roll shot with the same camera... That's a coincidence!

Dear photographers, yesterday I received the contribution of Don Heisz. The large print shows an empty farm house over a stripped corn field. The way of printing supports the gloomy atmosphere. My wife likes that too.
The second is a contact print of a sheet film of unknown origin. It shows a bunch of sunflowers. Don wrote the image is not good enough for enlarging, but gives a good contact print. I agree!

In my younger days, I made 13x18 prints for the first enlargement. I switched later to 18x24. Now I am back to 13x18. Small is beautiful, some images look remarkably sharper. The same is valid for the contact print. A beautiful small print.

Thanks, Uwe. I'm glad you like them. I think the mystery film I shot those sunflowers on was some sheet that was already in a film holder when I bought it. It had some mould damage and fog and speed loss (I think I exposed it at iso12 in full sunlight and it was still thin). I never bothered to look up the notch codes and I think it was the only sheet.
They arrived pretty quickly, too.

I received a very nice color print print from halfaman yesterday. It is a shot of one of the sailors on a small tour boat on the Nile River on Egypt. halfaman did an excellent printing job and color was an excellent choice for the subject mater. Thanks!

And it got delivered at my doorstep today!

Trond sent me a beautiful print of a tree, he took the photo nearby a river in the area where he lives in Norway.
Printed beautifully on Fomatone MG Classic. There's loads of detail to be seen in the tree, still the photo has a reasonably shallow depth of field which puts the focus exactly where it should be.
Thank you for this beautiful print Trond, I really like it a lot!
