Americans were aware of Bourke-White's profoundly important photography long before she passed.
My mother, who introduced me to darkroom work and processed color slides at home, and who exhibited significant photos when she was a teen, knew a lot about Weston and Bourke-White. Wasn't so interested in AA because perhaps of his narrow range of interests.
I think many of us have such prejudiced views that we actively prevent attention to women's successes.
Brilliant photographer.
Remember seeing her portrayal by Candise Bergman in the movie Gandhi using her 4x5 press camera talking and photographing with out ever missing a beat.
The photographers I admire the most are all women. They seems to be able to give a deeper perspective that men for the most part overlook.
Let's remember that B-W had the first cover of Life magazine. Vicki Goldberg's bio of B-W is a wonderful page turner as well. What a woman. Thanks for posting.

M B White was awesome.
Do you know..............
Did she get the name from a fellow photographer, that also worked at LIFE, with the last name of White.?
Thank You

Her father's name was White; at some point she added her mother's maiden name of Bourke, as did her brother to make Bourke-White. She did study one year at Columbia and took one course with Clarence White, as did many other female photographers, including Margaret Watkins. https://www.theguardian.com/artandd...utionary-gaze-of-margaret-watkins-in-pictures
