Bought my first Hasselblad today

I've been looking for a while, missed out on a couple of good ones due to indecision. But I finally pulled the trigger on a nice 500C/M with 80mm CF T* lens, A12 back and standard WLF.

I was originally looking for a chrome version but couldn't resist this black one due to the condition, reasonable price (for this market, at least) and the fact that it was sold by a very reputable dealer and comes with a warranty. I should have it in my hands by turkey day!

I'll congratulate you first though. I used to own a black 500/cm. They work just as well as the chrome ones do.

When I was young I thought C/M stood for Command Module . I have two Hassleblad cameras, one of the most elegant examples of industrial design extant. The most iconic image of the 20th century, IMHO, is the photo of Buzz Aldrin, standing on the moon with a Hassleblad camera fixed to his spacesuit, taken by Neil Armstrong, with his Hasselblad.

Welcome to the family! I've owned my 500C/M along with a nice compliment of Zeiss glass for about 30 years. Just used it about a week ago and everything still performs as if new. It is the one outfit that will be with me to the end.

Very nice! Do a quick test to be sure that the back is spacing the frames correctly and there are no light leaks. Also, exercise the lens at all speeds without the back attached. Even if the lens was not used recently, it is likely that the speeds will settle down with a bit of exercise. The big warning: MAKE SURE THE CAMERA IS WOUND BEFORE REMOVING A LENS. The unfortunate news: Bay 60 yellow, green, and orange filters have become unobtanium. Really, they have disappeared. The Bay 50s are still common, but that will not help you. Have fun!

Congratulations. These are going crazy, pricewise. And now the quest for lenses and accessories begins.

Take your time getting used to this and the shooting process will become second nature. It is the best camera I've ever owned, and will reward you many times over in great images.

I made that switch, also, many years ago... not so much because either TLR or Hasselblad is better than Rollei... but because I lost my TLR Tummie!

The most important prerequisite for shooting a TLR ! Hard times - not everyone can affort a tummie ...

Hasselblad 500C/M is the longest manufactured camera ever, 24 years making this model.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself a 60mm Distagon as soon as you can afford it. You will never want to go back to that boring 80mm ever again!

Congratulations!!! You didn’t go wrong. My first Hassy was a 1000F. When it died I got a new 2000FC/M, so that, using adapters, I could use lenses I used for earlier camera. A couple years ago I bought a used C/M body from KEH at a good price. There is a reason that the basic camera shape, controls and operation remained constant over so many decades.
Get one of the Hasselblad Manual books by Ernst Wildi and you will have a complete reference for all Hasselblad film cameras and accessories.
