Could anybody, please, let me know in which section in the U.S./Britain/others supermarkets Borax can be found and for what general consumption purpose is this product sold?
Thanks.

In the US, borax is sold as 20 Mule Team Borax. It is sold in the section with laundry detergents. It's sold as a booster (whatever that means) in washing clothes. It's sold on Amazon here.

In Australia - at the supermarkets in the laundry section - it's to soften the water. The other big supplier is the hardware stores in the household cleaners section.

Arm & Hammer's "washing soda" is Sodium Carbonate

Yes indeed. And borax is sodium tetra borate decahydrate. Never the twain shall meet, at least hardly ever in the same developer. A solution of borax tends to have a pH close to 9.3. Washing soda, which is supposed to be sodium carbonate hydrated about as far as it can go, tends to hav pH in the tens to twelves.
