I'm looking for some recommendations for some books on lifts, transfers and pos/neg special effects.

Can anyone help?

In addition to the resources already mentioned, you can find some great information at:

You can check out the Polaroid International Prophoto Awards, and P magazine for even more. P magazine is no longer in print, though it was a great resource for techniques and inspiration. I have a few issues that came with a CD that included many techniques, which was a great resource that unfortunately was discontinued.

You might also find a few Polaroid enthusiasts here at APUG. While some look down upon these techniques, others find them inspiring. I have shown a great deal of Polaroid manipulations at juried exhibits, and these have been items that have sold to interested collectors of art. I would be happy to help out with any questions, or to inspire more people to try these creative techniques.

One important aspect to consider is that many written accounts of doing manipulations seem much tougher than they are in practice. I found initial frustration, though when I figured out the various techniques they seemed quite easy. Be prepared to waste some film with experiments, and I hope you enjoy doing these.

Ciao!
