People, I need to translate Phil Davis' book, Beyound the Zone System...
I read it in English, so I only get the idea and the reading is slow.
If someone has the book in PDF, let me know... in that format I can translate it into Spanish... if it were available in that language I would buy it.

I found the book very difficult to read, and I’m a native English speaker and a journalist. Some of the important information, for instance, is contained in the photo captions rather than the text. I think Phil Davis needed a better editor.

I found the BTZS Lite booklet published by Fred Newman at The View Camera Store to be much easier to understand and follow. It’s included in their BTZS learning special.

Yes, its kind of very difficult book to read and the metering techniques explained in that book may lead to lot of confusion.

* my personal opinion: Incident meter gives a nice reference value and you may need to work from that to tune to your needs.

You are right... they are easy, in fact I have Way Beyound Monochrome's book... and from it I have taken some darkroom tools, and put them into practice.
today i'm interested to concentrate with the photometer, as i don't have a close sevice, my interest is reading about how to calibrate or alternative tools to calibrate.
i hope you understand that not counting options, is something more complicated and slower than you can imagine.

Excellent book Way Beyound Monochrome.

I don't think reading Phil Davis without the smart phone app or even his early calculator the Wonder Wheel, is all that helpful. As mentioned by jaun you really need the packet, the best is from Fred Newman.

if You have access to a Mac ,You can dictate the text by just readibg it into a text editor and then have Google translate it. That will save you a lot of time!

You can also contact Focal Press, propose your project and ask them for a pdf, They might even publish it for You. Spanish is one of the main publishing languages besides English and German.

I have the 1981 edition copyright Curtin & London, no longer in business, don't know who published the later editions or who owns the copyright. .

I have not seen or heard of anybody who has ever made the Wonder Wheel described in the 1981 version of the book.

I think it would be a fun project for learning and a great tool to have

My understanding was that it came with 81 version of the book, later editions he used software for a Palm Pilot, remember those, currently a Smart Phone APP. I bought my copy used and it did not have the wonder wheel, I've looked for one on line, so far no luck. It is my limited understanding, BTZ folks will know, that in addition the film curves Davis inputted paper curves which are taken account along with the scene brightness range. Not sure how many other data points are inputted, or how visualization it taken into account.

The early edition showed how to make a Wonder Wheel. The work involved using an X-Acto knife to cut slivers of golden paper then exposing print paper while lifting the slivers one by one to make an arc shaped grayscale. It would be a beautiful tool to have.
The Wonder Wheels you can buy do not have photographic grays like the one the book explains how to make.
A similar visual aid that has printing press printed grays is fairly easy to find: "Zone Systemizer"

If I remember that the application was for the palm pilot, I came to use, only that the technology advanced faster than for the apps of zonal system photography.
