Hello everyone!
My name is Lynette. I have been shooting analog photography for about two years now and it is safe to say that I have not put my camera down since.
I fell so in love with photography I made a dramatic change in career plans from being a dentist to becoming a photography teacher.
I want to teach photography because I've never felt like I belonged to any type of trade until two years ago.
I am so appreciative of the art and I am so glad I have people around me who feel the same way!

Bienvenue Lynette, du Japon! Good luck with your endeavours to be a photo teacher -- I'd love to be something photography-related all the time as well, still need to find a way to do it.

Hi Lynette,

Congratulations for having the courage and conviction to make such a change to your life.

You have tapped into a wealth of knowledge with this forum and I'm sure any of your students' "curved-ball" questions will be answered right here (and normally, very quickly)!!

Welcome from a misty Norway.

Good evening from SoCal! We have friends up in Sausalito so we were just up to the Bay Area for Easter. Lots of fine art going on around you, what a great place for inspiration. I am glad you are listening to that inner voice. Might not be as lucrative as far as careers go, but when you're doing that special something, everything else really doesn't matter that much.
Wish you the best,
Dr. Smith

Lynette, welcome to APUG from the Bay Area, East Bay (Richmond) to be specific. I hope you like it here, I do and I've learned a ton, this place is an incredible resource of photographic knowledge. Where are you learning photography? Where do you want to teach?

As of right now I am at Las Positas Community College taking advantage of the low unit price. I can't really decide between two schools to get my masters. I LOVE California College of the Arts in Oakland but I am scared they won't teach me enough technical aspects so I am also looking at Brooks Institute down in Santa Barbara.

In all honesty, I would love to teach anywhere. I'm open to new ideas and places. And if its a new place, new things will be there for me to photograph!

Great leap of faith! It takes guts to make a change like that!
Being a photographer - and teaching photography can be wonderful.
However, sometimes photography can be extremely difficult or next to impossible - and be worse than a root canal actually.
But when the numbing pain of working through the difficulties of creating a memorable image wears off - its great!

Welcome!

I don't know Las Positas (in Livermore, is that still part of the East Bay?), I took some courses at Laney, and CCC. At one point I did look into CCA and SFAI, but preferred to stay fed and housed (they're expensive). If you're looking for more photo instruction you might want to try the Dead Link Removed in Hayward.

Las Positas is a sister shcool of Chabot. Livermore is the last city to be considered the East Bay if I'm not mistaken. We are the last city before you hit the tracy hills and I-5 towards LA. I'm about 30 minute away from San Leandro/Castro Valley area.
I'm still in limbo about which school I'm going to attend, because they are completely different in teaching styles.

Just kidding about Livermore, I needle my friends that live in the 680 corridor that if you live in the "East Bay" you should at least be able to see the Bay.
