Dear photographers,

BPX27 is ready to start. Please keep the time line in mind:

Print and Send: November and December 2017
Rest and Relaxation: January 2018

Please wait a few day before sending anything, even if you have printed already: Allow everybody checking their address.

BPX is fun!

I put a largish letter in the yellow letterbox of the Deutsche Post. The destination is a not too far place in Europe this time.

Well that was quick!

I'll probably use most of the time allotted to my advantage. My image will probably be 11x14, and I'd like to use my recently acquired Yashica Mat.

It won't be mounted, however, as I'm not currently equipped to do a decent job.

And I'm off to do some test shots...

I don't know if there is a recommended maximum size of print for this exchange, but I have seen comments before about too larger prints being sent / received.

I love to see and do larger prints, but personally, I can't fit much more than a 10" x 8" in the album that I bought to put all of the prints received in, which with a small exception, have all been 10" x 8" 's along with just a couple of 16" x 12" 's which can't be put in the album because of the larger size.

Also, I have found there is a much bigger chance of prints getting bent on route or being folded to put through a letter box = even if it says 'Please do no bend' on the envelope!

PS I've been trying to find a copy of the print exchange rules, without any luck. So, does anyone know where they are and can supply a link? This is not just to answer the above thought about size, but just to refresh mine (and others) memory of what they are and what we can and can not send.

PS PS... Well, I've just manged to find the rules dated 2015, so I presume they are the same as now? :

But answering my question, to quote, 'Generally, a decent 8x10 or larger is the norm. Send whatever you feel like printing to get your vision across. If your neg looks best as a 4x4 inch square print or as a 24x36 inch print, just do it and have fun.'

I did not change the rules, so the text you linked is still valid. It is the only thread now which is sticky at BPX. I thought that is enough. But I point to that text next round explicitly.

Ah ok, I didn't think about that (both album and letter box size), and I guess it makes sense that most albums would be of the more "normal" sizes (5x7, 8x10, etc.). And, since I'm not mounting my image, it would only be considerate to make it a size which is easily stored.

Just to report arrival of 2 very fine prints from Leipzig today, Thanks Uwe!
These images of fine old buildings that seem to have been lovingly restored to their former beauty and well photographed by obviously someone with an appreciation of their importance to the architectural value of his region.
The quality is outstanding on these 9 1/2 x 12 inch B&W prints with wonderful tone reproduction.
Uwe with your approval I will scan them and upload for all to enjoy as well as myself (hoping to render the same tonal scale you managed)?

Dear Cedric, of course you may reproduce these prints. I am glad that you received them such fast.

Here are the scans for others to enjoy (hope they meet the quality by Uwe's standard, not so simple scanning in 2 passes and stitching, my scanner is only A4). Uwe2a.jpg Uwe1a.jpg

Just to report that my print is in the mail with a N/E destiny from here.

And my offering was put in the post yesterday = Tuesday 14 November 2017.

I just want to say that I feel quite proud of myself for getting it out so early in the month, compared to normal.

I just put my contribution in the mail for a transatlantic journey. I'll upload scans as soon as I hear back from the receiver that it has arrived. It felt good to be back in the darkroom after the summer break.

I received Tezzasmall's print, its a very nice whimsical portrait.

Thank you!

I stocked up some paper today, realigned my enlarger and will do prints tomorrow.

What a surprise ! Spijker's prints have arrived today - including a page of explanations - thanks Menno !

At 12x16 they are much larger than expected. I especially like the picture of the train station in Antwerp. This is really a gorgeous building and the technical quality of the photo underlines it well! The model works well on MCC which brings out skin tones nicely from my experience. Thanks again!

I'm looking forward to spending time in the darkroom this weekend - so my print(s) will go out soon (but need to travel a long way).

Regards,
Lars

I'm back from the Post Office.
My prints are now travelling to the other side of the Ocean, too late for Thanksgiving but hopefully in time for Christmas !

Good to hear my print has arrived safely in Finland, a country that I have never visited - yet!.

And I thank you for your comment about it; '...very nice whimsical portrait' is exactly how I would like it to have been received. :D
