Not leaving APUG, just unsure about the whole print exchange thing... take care of yourself, life's too short
to worry about my whining when you're passing stones ... I'll shut up now ... move along, nothing to see here...

Now that I'm making real prints in the darkroom this became a lot more exciting and I can't wait to sign up for BPX21!

Thank you Stone and DasBlute for your kindness and forgiveness.
I'll open the signing up for the next BPX21 this weekend and post a link here. Please don't signup before you have fulfilled your obligations in this BPX20.

If you haven't sent your print yet, please let us know when you'll expect to do so (mine will go out this weekend).

Here is an update of this BPX20. Please check if I interpreted all the post on this thread correctly. Maybe I missed something?
And if you haven't sent yet, please let us know when you expect to do so. If there are any problems, you can also PM me and we'll figure something out.

Question - some other exchanges I've participated in required a unique, never before shared in an exchange image. I don't recall - is that a requirement here? I have more identical prints I made of the same one I sent last time, and this time is a different recipient, and I have another print of an image I sent to a previous LFPF exchange that I can send. All those are ready to go and can be sent out soon as I can package them. Otherwise, I've been dealing with some family emergency matters and I don't know if I'll be able to print this weekend or not. If not I will bow out.

Sorry, things came up with family.

Hello Roger,
I hope everything is going allright with you and your family? And thanks for letting us know about your delay.
I have no problem with your solution. I checked older threads about this issue and only found this:

"If you cannot honor your commitment and have received a print already from someone else, please send the print you received to the person you were suppose to send your print. Please notify the organizer immediately. If you have NOT received your print yet, please contact the organizer ASAP so that a change in recipients can be made, if possible."

But if you have an older print ready, you still can honor your commitment. There is no rule for the print to be made this month (it's not a MSA). So if you still got a nice print you made for an other exchange, please use it if you can't make a new one. Just make sure you didn't send this person the same print twice.

If you also have an other print that isn't used in the BPX on APUG before, you could maybe use that one? So go ahead and use the LFPF print if you like.

When and why a print was done is irrelevant. To me, the most important is to be able to send a print on time as rules are known from the start. The first time I participated to BPX, I did not received any print and I found this pretty rude and disrepectful. I understand that sudden events could prevent people to meet their obligations but when I see Bert's list above, I suspect there are other reasons...

I didn't think there would be a problem with a print made before the exchange, I was just concerned about a print of an image I had already used in an exchange. I can send the same image I sent in the last exchange (it's a different person so would be totally new to them) or the one I've used in the LFPF exchange, which will also be new to the recipient but IS posted online, or at least a scan of a smaller version, on a web page made for that exchange that year. That's probably sufficiently obscure though.

I'll pack up one of these and get it out, thanks.

And Dali, I've engaged in several exchanges, two here, several times on FADU and twice on the LFPF. I've always sent my print. I intend to - as above. And if I couldn't have I'd have let folks know, and if I had already received a print (I have not) I would have sent it on to the next person in place of my print per the rules.

I don't see any problem with doing that. Think of it. Suppose Ansel Adams was participating in BPX for 5 years in a row, and he was only sending to each of the recipients a copy of his "Moonrise" print that he originally printed back in 1941. Do you think anyone would object?
I know I would not, even though it's not new and posted all over the internet.

Eugene.

I think we should keep it simple. We have 3-4 months to send a print. It should more than enough for most of us to spend several hours in the lab and if not, there is always the resource to send an older print. I am pretty sure no one cares if it is a new print or an old picture you already used for various exchanges as long as those who registered to be part of the exchange receive something. After all, If I (or you or anybody else) send an print and receive nothing, it is no more an exchange...

I'm not participating in this round, but have in many previous rounds. My experience has been that in about one out of three cases either I never received a print, or I never hear back an acknowledgement that my sent print was received.

Those who in the past have received a print from me know how much effort I put into this exchange. So I'll admit that it's a bit more than just disappointing when the full "exchange" part does not happen. I'm not sure why people sign up if they aren't going to meet the commitment. I didn't sign up this time because I knew I couldn't. Maybe it's just real easy to click that mouse one more time without really paying attention?

In any case, I think Bert does a fine job guiding this member exercise. And, at least at this moment, it appears that I should be able to sign up for the next round. Unless they decide to start that next big project at work during the upcoming fourth quarter...

If I do sign up, and you receive a package from me, please at least say something. Doesn't need to be a commentary or full critique. Just a simple acknowledgement is all.

Ken

MrBrowning did PM me and he will mail his print shortly. Roger Cole reported back in this thread also. The other participants (who haven't sent yet) received a PM from me today, inquiring about their status:

Also don't forget to post in this thread about receiving a print please.
Thanks,
Bert

I signed up because I thought I could. Life, unpleasant life, happened and I haven't been in the darkroom since, though I've shot and have a growing backlog of exposed film. But yeah, my recipient will get their print, I'll ship in the next week.

And yes, Ken goes to lengths, actually almost absurd lengths, to package his prints superbly. My wife used to work in a gallery and helped me unpack them and was very complimentary, "here's someone who knows how to treat his work."

Oh! Don't get me wrong. I'm not referring to anyone in this round. There's plenty of time for everyone here who may have experienced the unforeseen to eventually catch up. If I were to received a print months after the official deadline for a round I'd consider that fine. Participants have real lives to lead.

No, I'm referring to people from years back. Many of them just completely disappeared from APUG entirely. Not a clue as to where they, or my expected or delivered prints, might have gone. Vanished. Like in an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Or from a Greyhound bus in the desert from the Twilight Zone...

Yeah, that's pretty crappy. I'd like to think that life happened to those folks in a way that made APUG the least of their thoughts for long enough they then just felt too awkward to address it, or forgot about it completely - but then that's kind of hoping for unpleasant things for the most part and I don't like that, nor do I like the thought they just took a print and shrugged and laughed. Probably most are some where in between.

Alien abduction is always a possibility.

My prints going to the post office tomorrow. I won't enrol for the next round as life's unforeseen circumstances get too many people off side. I do apologise to my receipient for being late.

When my prints arrive I do look forward to constructive criticism.

I can confirm that the prints were dropped off at the Post Office this morning. I was told, all being well they should be delivered in less than 20 calendar days.

Ok, Ok.
Took all a long time. My print is sent. I received my print as well. Thanks to JimO. A lovely print of the Croton Dam.
With a bit of a history to the dam. It is always good to learn something new.

My print will be dropped at the postoffice tomorrow morning.
That leaves HeatherC, Roger Cole, MrBrowning and megzdad81 to post their print, if I'm correct.
Please PM me about your statuts.
