While researching film labs in the Big Apple, and finding most of them to get mixed reviews, here's one that gets consistently good reviews (Google and Yelp). Their name is a bit misleading, and it makes me nervous that they refer to "120mm" film in their price listings -- but they talk up their service pretty good, and the prices are reasonable:

I wonder if anyone here has any experience with them...

Most of the labs in NYC are pretty old school. You can expect decent, if not somewhat rushed service. Obviously the big names are a bit better like Duggal.

If you're ok sending out film I'm opening up a develop & scan lab in Portland, ME. My rates will be reasonable and I'll be doing B&W, E6, and C41, and delivering scans.

"...delivering scans." Can we assume that you will return the negatives? Best state that prominently, in view of WalMart, et al, trashing the "score" to photos!

The FAQs on my site will explain everything. As with most labs doing dev/scan workflow (IFL, State Film, FIND, etc), your film is filed away for a period of time (usually 90 days) until you build up enough orders. Then you get a return shipping invoice and all the cumulative orders you've sent in get shipped back at once. You can also request that your film gets sent back immediately of course too. My site isn't even live yet, but it will explain everything.

Thanks for the clarification. I was certain that you returned more than just scans, but reassurance is always welcome. BTW, where is your site?

The site hasn't launched yet. I'm still setting up/receiving my equipment. I'm going to be a small operation, but very high quality.

Thanks. I'm actually looking for a place where I can take film when I'm there next month. Regarding Duggal, some of their reviews make me uncomfortable, and there seems to be a theme that they don't much prefer small jobs.

Vistaimaging on 38th between 5th and Madison is my preferred lab(they used to be next door to Calumet on east 22nd and were known as crc Vista) - bleecker does an okay job, but their e6 is not as frequent (longer turn around)

The color house nearby bleecker is a newer pro lab- never used them though
