black flag

I need to use a flare-stopping 'black flag' for a low-angle macro photo for shooting against the light. Recently I made do with my hand in front of the lens - but I'm thinking of something more purposeful. Maybe a sort of wire frame mounted on the hot-shoe and extending forwards to hold a card in front? Has anyone tried something like this?

There used to be a shoe mount flexible shaft that had a small clamp on the other end.
The flex looked like flexible steel cable sheathing but smaller and prettified.
