Birthday GAS, plz help, Bessa content

I just bought my GF a nice new 15" MacBook Pro. I got no flack when The new Nokton 50/1.1 showed up in the mail. It is now happily on my M2.

Mine is into cameras, but she doesn't like film, she has her D200 and a nice stable of lenses which would make any man suffer from lens lust. Her main complaint about the M2 is that she can't see the picture. hee hee.
 
Well I still haven't pulled the plug on my Bessa ... now my brain is telling me to buy a used M4 of some various kind (m4-2 m4-p) and then some Voigt glass. Then my brain reminds me of the framelines .... so here I sit.
 
GAS is found in nature, it permeates every part of our lives but do not fall into the trap of the dark side or Dark GAS. You must learn to harness the power of GAS for good and not evil.

A good M4 of any kind would be a good starter. In my experience I've never had problems with the frame lines.

Of course - the wide angle framelines are missing on the Leica. Personally I shoot with a 25mm (Zeiss biogon) which brings up the 28mm frame lines, and am happy to work from there, estimating the additional field of view. I do not use an external finder. Naturally wider is not possible using this method. Do you expect to shoot at 21mm or wider?
 

Yep, and the first lens I was going to buy is the 25mm.

I used to own two M4-2's and loved em ... but I like the Bessa bodies too, and the price.
 
I just bought a Bessa R from an APUG member (have to go to the post office today) and all this talk is getting me excited, STOP. All of the rangefinders I have are fixed lens so frame lines have never been an issue for me. I have an Accura Anastigmat 135/4,5 LTM lens that I received with another camera and I was hoping that I could use it with the R. We'll see.

My B'day is the day before the OP's but I have never had to wait for it to be an excuse to buy a camera.

ADD+GAS is an explosive mixture. It is known to eat both existing and non-existing funds! :eek:
 
I just bought a Bessa R2a with a 28/1.9 Ultron, 40/1.4 Nokton and 75/2.5 Heliar. I couldn't be happier.
I actually ended up with 2 of the Heliars, one Silver and one Black. I prefer the black so the silver is going to market.

You should treat yourself. You only live once. Go for it!

As I recall, there were a lot of issues with build quality in the early Bessas. Are the new ones better as far as build goes?
 
Buid quality issue... maybe... I have 1 old Bessa L, 1 Bessa T Aniiversary model and 1 Bessa R2a. It's true that the "L" is a light and quite cheapo build camera but work well without trouble.
The "T Anniversary" with metalic sets/dials is gorgeous, quality of paint is top (mine is the grey version). My favorite modern camera.
And the R2a, ok not at level of a Leica but it's beautifull (version in lovely grey paint), well made, a pleasure to shot with... What to ask more for that price?
 
My GAS is acting up, have you sold the extra Heliar?
 
So I finally bought a Bessa L ... waiting for its arrival. Think I'm going to get the 15 Heliar for maximum scale focus fun. But I'll have no lens money until after XMas :-( I hate having a camera body and no lens!

Any other good (cheaper) wide options out there? I'm kind a new to the LTM world and all its variations.

I apologise, small, light, and ok optically.
If you get the chance try and get the optional lens hood that is available for most.
They can hold their own against leica lenses, for many applications.

The 15mm lens is tiny but shoots are big (wide)!!!
Have lot of fun with that lens!!!!

Remark: be carefull not shooting your fingers or feets, that lens is really wide!!! I spoiled some nice shoots having fingers on it :-(
