I will have to pull out my books that Bill wrote and reread them. I seen him at a lecture in Portland and thought "WOW, what a life!" Bill, you will be missed.

Wow that sucks! At least he died in his sleep. I just got my Lenswork yesterday and the first thing I did, as I usually do, is go to Bill's peice. I will certainly miss him.

I read the post here on APUG and first thought "It can't be the same Bill". I'll miss his column.

It's some tribute to Bill that so many people here found 'Endnotes' entertaining and informative - I'm guessing quite a few may not even have been born when he first took over Creative Camera magazine back in the 'swinging 60s', in London (1965 to be precise).

His contribution to the medium of photography is immeasurable; we'll all miss him.

Sad news. I used to read him in some magazine, don't remember, Phototechnics or the like. Since his participation in LensWork I enjoyed his colum and keep my subscription because of him, Brooks Jensen and Maureen Gallagher will have trouble to find someone with the wit of Bill if they plan to keep the "End Notes".

Very sad news indeed. I join the rest of you in saying he will be missed and R.I.P.

I had the pleasure of spending a weekend with Bill Jay during an early LensWork workshop on the Oregon Coast. I truly enjoyed his ability to look at photography and photographers from a unique and refreshing perspective. His sense of humor came through in his End Notes column, and I flashed back to the workshop every time I read them. He was one of a kind. I'm sorry to hear that he's gone.

OMG - I didn't know. I enjoyed reading his stuff in Lenswork so much. He was indeed one of a kind. I looked all over a couple years ago for back issues of Creative Camera and could never find any just because I wanted to know more about him.
RIP, Bill, you will be missed by many.

Colin - I just now "got" it - that is hysterical. Thanks for sharing.
