I just had a piece of the backing paper from my film break off some how in the A12 back while the back was still attached to my 203FE and could not get the dark slide back in completely so the back could not be taken off.

I rewound the film and luckily the piece of backing loosened up so the slide went in.

In the future, if this happens again or if part of the foam seal breaks off and the slide cannot be completely inserted, is there a way to remove the back from the camera without the slide pushed in completely?

I can't say for sure but you could go into a dark room or use a changing bag and remove the film/cassette from your A12 back first if rewinding is a problem. You could then look in to assess the problem and possibly remove the offending material so the dark slide will go in.
I would think that the foam seal would deteriate or wear down rather break off although anything is possible. I have replaced my light seals which is easy and doesn't take very long. One was worn but not broken and while I was at it I did the other one since the backs were of the same vintage.

You can always remove the insert which would make it much easier to stick your fingers in there and remove whatever is jammed. You lose the film of course but...
