It's a real shame, unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of it about.
I don't know if this helps

I've been buying used cameras for 30 years and this is the first time I had a problem. I've even bought cameras from Russian sellers sight unseen. There are some scammers on eBay, but I highly recommend buying from the Japanese sellers - almost all of them offer a 30-60 day money back guarantee, shipping is extremely quick and from my experience the Japanese sellers are extremely honest about the condition of their cameras. It's a real shame, unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of it about.
I had a really bad experience with this seller.
I was supposed to buy a complete Mamiya 7ii camera with 3 lenses and accessories from Bonn Macy (the seller). The camera was described as pristine and in "like new" condition.
The seller didn't want to use PayPal and suggested Zelle instead.
Note there's an article in the NYT today, "Fraud Is Flourishing On Zelle."
He's now listed as inactive and all his postings as far as I can see were items for sale. Unless there are other posts from him then Photrio's sole function for him seems to be as a sales outletYes - that's him.
Because not giving back the USD $300 is downright stealing.

That’s odd… I didn’t think Photrio got involved in these private-party sales. Especially odd since the buyer seems to have voluntarily sent more than the item cost. Hmmmm. He got temporarily banned while the moderators try contacting him.
Is there any legal recourse? Can I take him to small claims court in another state?
Which makes it a little ironic that this is what my bank pushes...
Yes - originally I had no intention of outing the seller. I didn't voluntarily pay him extra for the lens. I paid $1500 as a first payment to make sure the seller was legit and limit my loss in case he was a scammer. My intention was to buy the rest of the items - so I wasn't too worried about him only sending the 43mm lens. Now that he disappeared - I can't even buy the camera and remaining lenses if I wanted to. The $300 was to be applied to the remaining balance - so it is theft.BTW, fatso, I want to see you made whole as much as anyone else but this deal has been a mess from the beginning, seemingly without a complete meeting of the minds. It’s a real shame.
Thanks for letting everyone know about this person. Personally I would take it as a lesson learned, and stay away from less secure payment methods with people you don’t know well.
