I just picked up a huge lot of film holders, plate holders and film pack holders.Unfortunately a lot of them have varying degrees of rust and corrosion. I was thinking of using a small wire wheel in a moto tool type device but once I'm finished I was going to spray a grey rust primer on them but I can't seem to find a semi-gloss black similar to the factory finish. Any tips and advice is greatly appreciated.
I just use a non metal scourer and some warm sopey water. Rinse then let dry.
That will clean most.
If you need to clean more then maybe soom 1000 grit wet and dry sandpaper.
I would not get too carried away with something too abrasive, could get more damage than you fix.
Just a quality spray paint and light coats or dont paint at all. I have shiny metal film holders that dont have any issues with not being painted. Only the backing panel needs to be black.
If you do paint allow to dry for a few days or longer incase paint fumes effect the film.
Easiest and coolest way. I used this method to clean up an antique family hunting rifle that had been stored poorly and was covered in surface rust. Removed the rust without destroying the original bluing. .
What I don’t know is what it does to paint but worth trying.
there’s a bunch of youtube videos — there were nome when I did it — that will take you through the process.
