Best way to clean off old chemicals?

Hello All

I recently acquired an ultra-rare JOBO 4220 Chemical Separator which is in good condition, but has old dried chemical residue in it's pipes. What is the best way to clean out these old chemicals?

Will hot water be sufficient or something added?

Depends on what chemical it is.

Back in the old days, Kodak published a nice formulary that includes chemistry to clean trays and tanks. Those may be useful to you.

If there's residue stuck in hoses (I am not familiar with your equipment), I recommend you to replace them. I am in the process of overhauling a Thermaphot ACP-505 and, as suggested by the manufacturer, I am replacing all hoses, which have dried considerably. Plus, hoses are cheap!

Lots of hot water and long soaks are the safest route...

I have a Seperator, too, but mine spills heavily so I am not using it.

Jobo sold some processor cleaner, back in the old days. Maybe you can get hold of that through eBay. On the other hand hot water should do most of the trick.

Very Hot water and Dish washer tablets or powder clean alot of things, try it on something non critical first !!!

I can say that a little bit of subterfuge is needed, possibly a bunch of flowers, then pop the items into the dishwasher when the wife isn't looking. A double dose of dishwaher tabs and go and have a beer. I did this to my developing tanks, reels and mixing beakers and the results were worth the stress when she found out!

Hah! I've heard rumors of auto enthusiasts putting groty parts through the dishwasher.... I can neither confirm nor disprove these tales. I do know that polished aluminum will come out with a matte finish, having run a polished pot once.

I have run my Paterson reels through our dishwasher with my wife's knowledge. She's cool with many things...snakes, lizards, bugs, etc. The reels came out just fine.
