I have a BW 4x5 Acros Negative that I would like to scan for maximum quality using the Slverfast software and Epson v700 scaner with standard epson carriers. I would like to print a 30x40 print.

For example,

Which settings & profiles do I use in SILVERFAST? (eg Profile, Optimisation, HDR, multipass scan, effects like sharpening, Curves, Levels, noise reduction.. etc..)

I just need the best possible quality out of the scanner for printing this image digitally..

Thank you in Advance

Hi,

It all depends on your image, I would just do an generic scan and see what it looks like. If you shot the pic then you should have an idea of how it should look. If not, then it's whatever you prefer. Contrast, levels etc. are all subjective. If you are competent with photoshop then two or three scans with different exposures should allow you to adjust your image to however you want it. Use layers and opacity coupled with the eraser. There should be no noise as the original is film, a bit of grain perhaps. Slightly over sharpen for print. Not very scientific but more fun

When I scan using SilverFast I first reset any auto adjustments by clicking on the circular arrow in the bottom left of the main panel. Then I use SF's Levels and Curves to make minimal adjustments to balance the contrast if necessary, but leave all the major adjustments, colour corrections and sharpening etc. to Photoshop.
