Best point and shoot compact?

JW Photo, the only Prego I have used is the 90. I bought one for my wife for a present back in the 1990's. I was surprised at the quality of the photos, the ease of use, etc. I chose it because of its reputation at the time and its ability to zoom to 28mm, much wider than most point and shoots available at the time. When I use them for spontaneous shots now, I rarely zoom past 28mm. A great camera at todays used prices.

Thanks for the update and I have heard before that the model you have is a very good picture maker. I think I'll just keep mine in their boxes for now so they can be sold as "new". Besides, I have enough toys out of the toy box to play with right now. They do look like nice little cameras though. John W

This forum is going to be expensive for me, because I swore I was going to leave P&S film stuff alone and now I'm looking at Rollei 90s at KEH and thinking "Huh, those are kinda neat..."

My wife bought a Konica "off-road" Wide 28 (28mm f/3.5) from Japan
(85 EUR - incl. German import turnover taxes ) - I can really recommend !

With very few override options, but with a superb lens, I'd suggest you invest in a Leica C1 (film, not digital) camera,. You. have to hunt around a bit for one, as they are a few years old, now. I bought one in mint condition for about £90, late last year, and apart from looking the coolest design I've ever seen, it is also fun to use.

BTW, how can one get pictures onto this site, using an iPad? There does not appear to be an icon for this purpose ( otherwise I'd post a picture taken with mine)

The post I just put in, about "Point and shoot" cameras , in answer to Blockend, contains a wierd error: the amount quoted should have read " ninety quid" . I tried to enter it in numbers with a pound sign and it posted a colossal number preceded by some gibberish. I had noticed before, on another site like this one, that the iPad can't cope with this., but forgot.

I have the 28mm version, it vignettes, noticeable, which is too bad, other wise a nice sharp lens.

Many suggesting the Olympus XA series, the Olympus RC, The Minolta Himatic but all of them are not point and shoot. They all needs to be manually focused.

The XA2 is practical a P&S camera, just use the middle setting. No manual focussing at all beyond that.

Yeah but something like the Nikon F5 is much more of a P&S than any of the XA's.
