Hi everyone, I've recently used photo express to get a roll of film developed and put onto CD. Although i'm very happy with how it turned out i'm wondering if there are any other similarly priced services that offer higher resolution scans. Photo express scans to an opened file size of around 18mp but the compressed JPEG size they give is about 1.7-2.3mp. I'm wondering if anywhere else does higher resolutions for when i'm uploading to flickr/instagram. If not i'll have to settle for photo express but wondered if anyone knew of any recommendations. Thanks!

Max Spielman do it as well, but I'm disappointed by how little effort they now put into providing a quality service. From a 24exp roll I'll get maybe the last 21 that aren't ruined. I brought this to their attention once and got told "ah we can't avoid that sir they get exposed to light when we load the machine". But in the small town where I live, I either use Max Spielman and their £5 develop and scan service or I pay through the nose to have the film posted as a package to somewhere miles away.

Do you know what resolution Max Spielman scan in? It seems tempting but you haven't exactly given a glowing review!

I have to wonder what processor they use that loses frames when loading it. Sounds pretty Micky Mouse to me.

Yeah it's unfortunately a result of the fact that film D&P (or in my case D&S) makes up such a tiny portion of their business these days. In the UK they're a fairly well known highstreet chain with branches everywhere. They D&P/D&S in the actual store, so that introduces a variable where the results from my local shop may well be a bit cr-ap but the same service at the OP's nearest store might be fine, so I'd still recommend them as worth a try.

@Thomas Keidan, not sure at the moment, I'll check the resolution later when I'm next near my PC. It's high enough to be usable on the internet/flickr etc but not good enough to blow up into for example an A3 print.

Best places I've found for develop and scan in the UK are Filmdev (C41, B&W) http://www.filmdev.co.uk/ and AG Photography (C41, B&W, E6) http://www.ag-photolab.co.uk/

Both offer different sizes for scans (small/medium/large), and I've found a medium scan from either place is good for most things. If you just want to post to Instagram etc, you could probably get away with a small.
AG Photography will send your negatives and a CD back to you in the post, whilst Filmdev will give a download link for your scans and post the negs.
