Hello fellow APUGers!
I am shooting a football game at the Rose Bowl in a couple weeks. I was wondering what the best film is to shoot with and be able to push up to 3200 if needed. I will be shooting on a slower Sigma 500mm lens that is pretty sharp and I need to be able to get fast enough shutter speeds to not get much blur so that probably means pushing my film quite far.
Would you use P3200 or push some film rated for 400 to 3200?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

P3200 or Ilford Delta 3200 in T-Max developer.

Test it before you do the big shoot.

Well, P3200 I believe is discontinued, but both it and the Delta look great in T-Max developer. Bear in mind that the grain is pretty prominent in 35mm.

I've had awesome results with Tri-X up to EI 1600, and 3200 or faster is certainly do-able.

Because we are talking about goofy grain, contrast and shadow Delta, test it out for your purposes! What I think is acceptable may not work for you.

Good luck!

Yes, P3200 was discontinued about 2-3 weeks ago, but you probably can find some if you look around. Yes, 3200 is possible with either film, but not optimal. Lots of grain, thin shadows. 1600 is much better if you can do it. Testing is the key. It's never a good idea to push something to the limit first time out.

Portra 800 pushed, Delta 3200, Portra 400 pushed
