What is the best best continuous light bulb (inside a softbox or umbrella) for photography and video? I would like to have the best soft white light possible.
I would like to use them in softboxes and/or umbrellas....
Thanks so much!

I would focus on the video usage...any quality light that is usable for video will suit for stills. I don’t do a lot of video currently other than producing some streaming web shows, but previously did a LOT of work in that field as a lighting director and editor. Best options I’ve found are some of the LED panels out there. The set I am using has two sets of bulbs so color temps can be more or less tuned. Challenges are that they generally are not super high output and tend to be small and therefore specular in quality. Very hard to get them to produce soft, flattering diffuse light unless you move them in very close. An upscale and preferable option would be a Kino-Flo fluorescent system, which solves both of those issues. I personally would try to avoid using a hot bulb - photo flood or halogen, again for continuous light because of heat and power consumption.

For my my web shorts...I’m using two 12”led panels about 60” off the subjects for main and fill. Background and key lights are actually the modeling lights off of my studio strobe lights (PCB Einstein’s).

While you might get lucky with the hardware-store option, purpose-built photo lights don't need to be costly and here's why I'd advise them:
Natural Daylight:

Hardware store LED:

Adorama Flashpoint Compact Fluorescent:

Readings taken with my phone's camera pointed at Xrite Colorchecker Passport gray card, save for #3 where I aimed camera directly at my softbox. Notice how hardware store light measures as 4500 degrees Kelvin versus ~5000K for the others, but the spectrum looks quite different!

I think it all depends on where you are going to take the picture. Some light bulbs are suitable for darker rooms, others for lighter areas. In fact, I think the study of light is a science. I have a big garden, and I have lights all around the perimeter. I recently decided to buy a flag pole light, and the look of my garden was completely different. I thought my garden looked like a white house. I would like your advice on what bulbs light would be best for the garden? I want my garden to look aesthetically pleasing and people to admire it.
