Hi,

Newbie here, recently subscribed.

I've been looking at a Beseler Slide King, an old lantern slide projector that some folks use for projecting 120 trannies. Gepe 6x7 mounts and XPan mounts are 85X85 mm (OD). Two questions:

1) this will fit fine horizontally -- the gap is about 100mm, but what about vertically, where the gate does not clearly accommodate 85mm, particularly with any adapters that would raise the tranny (or does so just barely w/o an adapter)

2) what adapters, if any, have people used in the slide carriers with a gate opening of 100mm (horizontal) and a slide 85mm wide.

Experience? or pointers to sources of info?

Thanks.

I've managed to get a couple of different carriers for my Slide King, and none of them quite works with modern commercial slide mounts. It may be that such carriers exist, but I don't have one.

So my plan is just to cut my own lantern sized mounts to size with a mat cutter, and then I can cut the windows to the size I want for any format I shoot that's smaller than lantern size, horizontal or vertical. I've made a couple of test mounts, and it works. I tape the slide on one edge to one side of the mount, so that it can expand and contract without buckling. It's kind of a project to do it this way, but I figure I don't do too many slide shows, so it's not too unreasonable.

Thanks, David. Yes, I saw that the old Wess 6x9 mounts were 85x105, just a bit too long for the 100 - 102 horizontal gap in my slide carrier. I have a normal carrier into which someone has fitted inserts to take 7x7 mounts for 6x6 trannies -- but there are plenty of projectors for 6x6 so that doesn't seem so useful except when you are projecting different sizes.

Re your method, David, -- do I conclude correctly that you use 1 mat -- not a foldover sanwiching the tranny, and no glass?
