im still on my quest to get an enlarger, but i think im close on finishining it. there is this deal on craigslist with beseler cII and all sorts of other equipment (see list) he wanted 500$ for all, but i offered 220$ and he said ok.. so is it worth getting?

heres the list:

I have a Beseler 23CII Silver Anniversary Edition with Colorhead. It is in great shape. I’m actually needing to sell off all my darkroom equipment. I bought all the equipment new around 1982 and used it at home while I was in college until 1987. The equipment has been carefully stored in an indoor closet ever since. If the enlarger will handle your anticipated maximum negative size I would do it for $220. You will likely want another enlarging lens for 35mm. The F/4 version may be lacking compared to a F.2.8 which can be had relatively inexpensively used.

Yes!! yes, yes, yes, yes! Good grief, the 16x20 and 11x14 easels alone would likely go for about $125 altogether on the bay. And the El Nikkor f4 isn't a dog...it's just not as good as the f2.8 which is a later version of that lens.

Do be careful though. I stored my Opemus enlarger for about 10 years in a downstairs closet only to discover when I took it out to use finally, that mice had nested in it and their mouse-pee had rusted a lot of the metal. The whole enlarger head was useless. Rats!

As long as your not printing larger negatives than 6x9, you should go for it. If you anticipate moving up to 4x5, wait. 4x5 MX enlargers are pretty cheap around here. I picked mine up with a couple of easles, 4 negative holders and a 50mm f4 Nikor for 125 bucks off craigs list. Had to go all the way to SF for it. *L* It only has a condenser light source but I do have a Zone V cold light for it (if I can get the adapter).

Dear tossik,

Buy it now before he changes his mind! $500 is not an unfair price. $220 is a steal! Don't wait to find a 4x5 enlarger. You can always buy one of those (and I advise you to keep your eye out). All the non enlarger stuff together is worth more than $220.
