I have a dead Beseler 45 Dichro head without the computer controller. As it has a manual filter unit physically adjusted by hand by way of the three knobs, what I realized what that if the circuit boards and controller are removed, including the transformer and bulb, the transformer output being 83 Volts, how cleaver to use an 83 Volt bulb, I could replace all of that with a power supply for an LED. I am working with a company on the correct LED with the correct degree K. for the light source. In this head the light shines though the mix of filters into the mixing chamber which is made of Styrofoam, the top of which is at a 45 degree angle directing the light down to two Plexiglas diffusers similar to the one in the cold light head. If this works I will use it for filtration with VC paper and determine the adjustments with a color analyzer which I have on hand. If it doesn't work I will add a 120 volt 250 watt bulb of the proper color temp.

I think if you want to keep the same filtering/mixing system then your best bet would be to install another 250w halogen light source. I do like the idea of LED but using white LED at the same position as the old light source and use the same filter would be very inefficient. I think I would install a matrix of tri color LED's or a matrix that has R,G,B LED's and I would mount this nearer to the diffuser. I would then control the power to the R,G,B LED's separately to obtain filtration. Another problem I think that color analyzer would not work correctly with LED illumination.

All that work and the LED company said the LED and heat sink couldn't fit in the space I needed. I think something could but I have decided to go with the halogen bulb in a different voltage and get it to printing again.

Have you seen the new LED work lights at the local big box stores?
It may be possible to modify(bodge) one or two to fit the space.

I decided to strip out the unit and install a 120 volt 250 watt halogen bulb of the same temperature and run it on my Sola CV unit. LED heads will be the future, I just don't have the time to experiment any more with this unit.

The replacement bulb was all that was needed, no circuit boards or jumble of wires, just one bulb and one fan. I wish I had done it two years ago. I could even use it for color if I wanted to. A separate LED head would be nice but they too produce a lot of heat. This was the $8.00 solution to the problem. I would post a picture but there is nothing to see because it is all gone. Anyone know what to put in the left side of a Beseler head?

Sounds like a very good solution. Sometimes the simplest things are the best.
