Bergger 200

For better or worse, I've been using Bergger 200 lately in both 120 and 4x5. Now I have two questions that maybe someone can shed some light (or opinion) on:

1. What's the intent of the separators between the sheets of 4x5. They leave a LOT of litter in my changing bag and don't seem to have much utilitarian value.

2. How is the name "BERGGER" pronounced. I say it like 'burger', my lab says it like 'berjer'... but its French so I sometimes think it should be 'burj-aye'.

Guy Gerard, the proprietor of Bergger, pronounces it (as far as I recall) Bear-gair -- or at least, doesn't complain when I do. He lives about 50 miles from me.

A double 'g' is never going to be soft.

Separators are to reduce/avoid scratching. As films get tougher, fewer and fewer manufacturers use them. In most cases (including, I suspect, Bergger) they are an historical leftover anyway.

I am hoping in the next week or two to expose some Bergger 200 in my 12x15 Gandolfi...

Roger has it right. You want to pronounce it as if it were "berger" but the second G makes the G sound hard.

It might be Ber-GAY... but my bilingual brain wants to say Ber-GEHR (with the lovely throaty R sounds of course ).

I am ashamed to say that I have forgotten Guy's wife's name but I am reasonably confident that it is something like Berenice (or maybe Bernadette), and the Bergger name is part from this (BER) and part from Guy's surname (GERard).

haven't you had any issue when loading Bergger (I aprove : in spite of its sounding like a german name, it is bear-gair, or bear-ger. Just like "burger" but with ea as in sweat for both voyels) 120 film? It seems that it's quite fog-prone, because of a too short protective paper?

Yes, about 33.3% of the time I seem to get very unacceptable unanticipated exposure of the edges of my film. After shooting out my stockpile of 120, I'll probably not buy more.
