Can someone compare tonality of Berger Fine art presige (single grade) paper to ilford Galerie or ilford VC warm tone fiber base paper. (Berger is around 5 times more expensive than Galerie). Thanks in advance.
if you are referring to Fine Art silver supreme, it is lovely paper. I don't think you can compare it to galerie as it has a different dmax. For my needs i use ansco 130 or LPD at very low ratios to achieve the look i want.
It is not a warmtone paper so i don't think you can compare to ilford's warmtone papers.
'Compare' is very difficult in this context. All I can say is that I find it a very pleasant tonality; as Ole says, different, which is not the same as better or worse. Only you can decide that.
I've only had the chance to try a few sheets of the Bergger Fine Art Silver Supreme paper in a sampler pack. I found that for small print sizes (8x10) the textured paper base obscured a lot of detail.
In the end I decided to stick with Gallerie because of the price and because the Bergger isn't available in the size I like (12x16).
If you write a nice email to Bergger I'm sure you could get your hands on an 8x10 sampler pack which also includes some of their other graded papers.
