No. I live the Bay Area (East Bay), but also had property on the west side the Sierra for a long time, and went there on weekends, plus as a base for summer backpacking trips. The freeway has gotten crazy here. I avoid it except for mid-day, now that I'm retired. Where is the Highway Patrol when you actually need them? My guess is that they lost much of their funding once the Raiders moved to Las Vegas. So many drunk driving fines and arrests were handed out relative to Raiders games, that sometimes you'd see literally eight or more Highway
Patrol cars lined up at along the Fwy onramp from the Coliseum parking lot, checking every single driver pulling out. My suspicion is that Raiders fans weren't even allowed into a game unless their alcohol level was four times the legal limit. There were more severe wrecks along that stretch of 80 than anywhere else. And no wonder Lake Mead is going dry, now that Vegas needs to come up with a lot more raunchy booze. Just throw a decaying kangaroo rat or two in a bucket, and they'll drink it.
