The geared tripod head on my Majestic tripod was so stiff in tilting that turning the crank moved the tripod (and it's a very heavy Majestic tripod).

I sent it to Bencher, and they replaced several parts and relubricated it for $73.46 (they could have rebuilt it entirely for $150, which still would have been a good deal, I thought). It works like a new tripod head, and I'm very satisfied. Joan was pleasant to deal with on the phone.

It's a pity that Majestic tripods aren't better known--they're very solid.

Yes!, I have a Majestic that I purchased in 1963 I used it while I was a professional industrial/commercial photographer for 15 years and am still using it today as a retired photo educator/photographer.

I've had a couple of Majestic heads--very sturdy, but a bit heavy outside of the studio.

I, too have a Majestic and love it. Sure it's heavy and I won't backpack with it, but if I am going to the shooting site in my pick-um-up truck or Samauri, and going to shoot an 8x10, I'll toss the Majestic in the back.

Yes, it's worth the cost of the repair!

I too have a Majestic. It is heavy beyond belief! It is so stable, though. I have yet to attempt to take it into the field, probably not too far from the trunk of my car!
