Hello all. I've already been lurking in these forums for the past couple of months and am still very gratefull to have found such an amazing site.
I am 30ish years old, a father of two beautifull young children (a boy and a girl), an architect, and of course an amateur photographer.
I got into 35mm about 7 years ago after I got out of college and before a trip to Europe with my wife in '97. I also started getting into printing my own stuff at a local community darkroom facility. I used to spend 4-5 hours each weekend printing "BC", or before children as my wife and I like to say. After my son was born, I didn't get near as much time to print, but for awhile I continued to shoot quite a few rolls of black and white. I've only probably printed about 3 photos in the past 5 years though.
That was up until just recently when I finished converting the left over space in our furnace room to my very own darkroom. Some of you may have seen my posts requesting feedback on my layout etc. I'll post some pictures of the finished product in a few weeks hopefully. I still have a few finishing touches to put on it, but I am operational for the most part.
I have a couple 35mm SLR's (Pentax ME Super and PZ70), a Ricohmatic 225 for medium format and an old Graflex supergraphic 4 x 5. I got the ricohmatic off of ebay a couple years ago and really haven't played with it a whole lot yet. A family friend gave me the 4 x 5 about two years ago, and it was just a couple days ago that I printed my first negative.
I have an old Omega D2 with 50mm and 150mm Schnieder Componen S lenses that I got at a yard sale from another architect/photographer. Lately, I've been playing with the 4 x 5 more than anything, just out of curiosity really. So far, I really like the clarity.
I do plan on hanging around for a long time and eventually putting things on the gallery pages for you all to critique. I do have a thick skin (a must for any architect), so I'm hoping it will improve my work. Photography and printing is really just a hobby, a creative outlet since my work isn't always that creative believe it or not.
