Hello APUG people

I am a photographer beginning only to use artificial light. I shoot mostly with available light in the 9 years I have been with a camera. I work mostly with the Nikon systems: FM, FMII. I fully respect analog cameras and manual photography. I am hoping to have some help on working under studio conditions. Presently, I am learning my first course in studio lighting.

My favourite themes are fine art, abstract, street and still life. Apparently, I find the human being too challenging a subject and have dismissed taking portraits till now.

Welcome. Yeah, people are tough to shoot in a studio, best to sneak up on 'em while they aren't looking and take 'em by surprise. Happy APUGing.

Thank you for the welcome and encouragement, Jeanette! I must say, I am elated to be amongst analog enthusiasts.

These days, even clients I meet admit negatives still are a prime choice.

Thank you for your encouragement, TheDarkRoomStudios!

I have ten people on a list now, all awaiting my preshoot consultation for good portraits. Thus far, my first meeting went extremely well.

Yes, now comes the terrible challenge of actualising all that concept.

But 'tis the challenge that makes the result so much more rewarding. Good luck, have fun with it, and don't forget how much fun it is to be doing what you enjoy.

I am using my studio a lot; mostly shooting people. I started out by using some simple setups and worked from there. If you can get hold of a book on lighting you will get lots of light settings. I will try to dig out some of the ones I started out using and post them here.

And, btw, WELCOME HERE!

Hey Modafoto

Thanks a bunch for the tip. I am scouring book stores and have found some treasures indeed! More than what I asked for.

I am now working with one Bowen Espirt 500; I hope to accelerate to learn more about the repair of analog SLRs and lenses. I just picked out a brand new book for repair of Nikkor systems! I shoot with an FM and FMII.

Watch out for my new thread on some really good equipment for sale. I have a few enlargers on hand and they need to go. They are definitely steals since only those in analog will be able to identify them.

I found a nice book about "Hollywood Portraits", showing the (assumed) lighting setup for some of the most famous portraits. You know - Hurrell? That book is worth chasing down - except that it makes my own efforts seem woefully inadequate.
