Hello all,

I have a four-blade darkroom easel made by Beard, but I think it is missing a few pieces (if that's even possible). Any photos I've seen online (which I've attached) have these little aligners that go in the slots on the easel at the top and left. I inherited this easel, but I'm pretty sure that these pieces are missing. Does anyone have the same/similar easel? What are those little aligner pieces? Is there something I can use to substitute? The easel is practically useless without these pieces because without them, you can't align your paper.

Thanks,
Henry

it is a flat metal planks. The length a bit shorter that the length of the slat openings. The height i don't know, but you can figure it out by you self. The planks shall stay above of the easel just about 1/8" when the easel open and shall completely disappear in the slots when the easel closed. just experiment with something like thin cardboard and figure the required height. Then make a planks from thin metall or even some plastic.

When I bought my 5108 De Vere enlarger there was a large Beard easel with it missing these parts. My local DIY store sells L shaped extruded Aluminium or Brass, and I bought some Aluminium, which works well. Beard varied how their easels took these strips, and the easel you've shown is not one I;ve ever seen.

What makes them disappear in the slots when the easel is closed?

Thanks

Ok, thank you. That's what I assumed, but I wanted to be sure. I will try to invent something to replace them.

Have you looked underneath the easel? These missing parts may have been taped to the easel underneath. That's where I found two 'paper stoppers' for my 50x60cm Beard easel . . .

Sometimes the metal strips get dislodged and fall loose inside the body of the easel. Give it a shake and if something rattles it is probable the metal strip. In the bottom surface there is a long slot (hole) where you can get the strip out by shaking or tilting the easel to get the strip to fall to that corner.
