I'm looking at Bay I filters for B&W to go on Rollei. From what I've seen they are flanged on the inside but not on the outer aspect.
That presents the only possibilities of using the filter OR the lens hood but not both together. Is that the way it is?

Are there filters that will allow putting a hood on over the filter? Or is that even necessary?

TIA

I use both together on my Rolleicord. If I recall correctly, the filter bayonet is within the lens housing, and the hood bayonet surrounds it.

Interesting. Those I've seen images of don't show this. These offered for sale are stamped with the F&H name etc, come with original boxes so I have to accept that these are original equipment.

My Rollei Bay I filters and hood are used simultaneously on my Rolleiflex MX-EVS and Rolleicord VIb, as Alex describes above. Another option, which I also use for economic reasons, is a Bay I-to-Series V adapter (Tiffen 522) with Series V filters and a screw-in Series V hood, which retains the filter. Both systems work well.

I have just looked at my camera to check. Both lenses are equipped with inner and outer bayonets. The hood fits the outer, and the filters the inner. My hood and filters are all original Rollei Bayonet I fitting.

With a Rollei lens shade you can, but there are some third party lens shades that goes on the inner bayonet, so get a original Rollei one.

This might be of interest: http://www.urmonas.net/manuals/rollei-prac-acc-60/rollei-prac-acc-60.html

And here's one of my pre-war Rolleflexes with the older Proxar lenses plus a yellow filter and lens shade: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7222/13288627554_9b0b7f445c_b.jpg

I've never seen a hood from any manufacturer that goes on the inner bayonet. But here is a brief summary:

Hoods: all of the ones I have seen connect to outer bayonet. Rollei (F&H), B+W, Minolta, Yashica, Walz, Accura

Rolleinars: all connect to inners. taking lenses have a female bayonets on the front

Color correction set: inner bayonet; all filters have female inner bayonets on the front

Rolleisoft: inner bayonet; all versions have female bayonet on the front

UV and contrast filters: inner bayonet; no front connections

I've never seen a hood from any manufacturer that goes on the inner bayonet.

Chinese sellers sell them cheap on eBay, like this one:

People planning to use Rollei-filters should avoid them. But they might work ok with the B+W brand of filters that have a female bayonet on the front, but the shades are made of plastic and the male bayonet could break inside the filter.

Hello,
since the Yashica Mat 124 uses the same Bay I, you can use their lens accessories also on a Rollei with Bay I.

The old Kodak Series filter system had a Bay 1 adapter and allowed the use of filters and a hood at the same time. The filter for a bay 1 is a Series V.
