Battery Trouble

So i bought a Minolta srt-100 at a swap meet and everything seems to work fine except the battery slot which seems to be stuck and impossible to remove without damaging the camera or taking it apart, i think the only thing the battery is used for is focus settings or something along that ( if you can't tell i pretty much don't know anything about cameras, but would like to !) well i was just wondering if i can still use the camera without the battery?

The only thing the battery is used for is the light meter in the camera. You can use the camera without a battery and everything else will work the way it should. If you have no experience at guessing exposures, look up the 'sunny 16' rule. It will get you close to the correct settings.

Or use a hand held meter if you wish. I have an sr-T101 and a 201 that I use in this way. I don't believe I have ever purchased an sr camera that had an operable light meter.

In ye oldene dayz, the battery slot on the Pentax scew thread cameras would routinely "freeze." Our solution was a very large screw driver on which we had radiused the blade to match the curve of the coin slot. It was then possible to push hard enough to keep from buggering the coin slot. Once off, clean the threads; a tiny bit of some silicone lube on a Q-tip kept it from freezing up again.

I remember a milled out area on the other side of those old Pentax covers. If it was stuck, the bottom plate could be removed and the cover removed by turning it from the back. Dunno if all were that way, but the ones I saw were.
