Battery powered safelight

I wanna turn the toilet in uni into a darkroom. Do battery powered safelights exist or did I dream it up?! They must surely, what should I be looking for?

Have you considered using a battery powered light, covered with amberlith or rubilith?

I use a red Petzl headlamp sometimes which works well (http://www.petzl.com/en/outdoor/headlamps/signal-/-elite/signal). Also, some people have had good luck using LED bicycle tail lights.
Jobo has made some battery powered safelights as well.

My sister had a battery powered wall light, when she died I was given it, it would be easy to fit inside a safelight housing, they sell in the UK quite cheaply.

Change the batteries after each seesion if you go that way. Be a bummer losing your light source halfway through a session. But it's a great idea.

I used a red led bike taillight (as someone mentioned) in a dark red plastic bicycle water bottle (do you see a theme?). It worked really well. Just the tail light produced some fogging, in the water bottle housing it didn't and the light got more even. They have a good life span, those small leds.

Yeah, but its on a different campus, not the site where the studio is. It's 5 mins up the road. Seeing as I'll be doing collodion speed is of the essence! I'm going to buy one of those cycling/fishing headlamps but it'd be nice to have another less directed light source besides. Some of these ideas are real good cheers.

There is a British battery-powered LED safelight that one wears around one's neck, but I can't remember who makes it. Maybe someone else will know.

Don't you have electricity or an extension cord? A Jobo Minilux on a lanyard around your neck might suffice. It uses a single AAA battery.

That must be the one that I was thinking of. It's a pity that it doesn't take a more common battery.

Astronomers use red LED flashlights. Great for preserving night vision, yet also very handy for the darkroom. I used mine recently for processing lith film. http://members.cox.net/rigelsys/flashlight.html

Army surplus stores carried a flashlight with the rightangle head. the trim ring holding the reflector in also holds filters, one of them was a red one for using during blackouts. I had one that I mounted a chunk cut from an auto tailight lens that worked great.
