I have a question I hope someone can answer, and this really isn't a troll post.

If you scan a 35mm negative at a very high resolution (and I don't even know what that would be), what kind of output would you expect to see from a computer (let's assume a high quality printer, too) at the following print sizes: 2x3 inches, 3x4.5 inches, 4x6 inches, 8x12 inches? Does the print quality start to fall off as in traditional enlarging? Or does the high resolution scan help to retain information?

Any information, links, etc. would be appreciated.

If you mean print quality falling off as a result of the enlargement factor showing things like grain and the limits of your lenses resolution, then the answer is yes - the quality will fall off the same way - the falloff in quality is due to the fact that at high enlargement factors, all the flaws in the negative are magnified and revealed. Digital scanning won't help this.
